Markievicz, Countess (1868-1927)

I did this illustration of Countess Markievicz. She was a Seinn Fein and Fianna Fail politician. In 1918 she was the first woman elected to the British House of Commons but did not take her seat. She was part of the Gore -Booth family from Sligo and married a Polish count. Saint Stephens Green during the 1916 rebellion. She is said to have shot an unarmed policeman named named Lahiff who refused to give her the keys to the College of Surgeons. She is buried in Glasnevin cemetery.COUNTESS MARKIEVICZ
